Single Stage vs Progress for Newbie

I looked into creating a "kit" with the CoAx. With the press running about $300 and then adding a scale, hand priming tool, powder measure, funnel, deburring kit, etc I think I will be at about $600.

When I compare that to the rock chucked supreme master kit with the $50 rebate it become hard to justify that cost for a starter kit. All in that puts me at $250. I think I'm going to go with the Rock Chucker and in the unlikely case I need more than what that gives me purchase the Co-Ax later. By then I'll have some experience and understanding of what I need.

Good decision. I still have the rockchucker I started with 40 years ago. Use it a lot for depriming and odd stuff I don't want to take the time to set the co-ax up for.

lots of people load quality ammo on them

Interesting but completely outside the limits I'm willing to spend. Isn't there a decent balance scale that doesn't cost as much as a small car?

you know you can still find the Ohaus 10-10's out there. It would be used but they are about as good as you can get.

If you could drive up to Owego, NY I would show you how to use my equipment so you could make an informed choice.

Are the Rockchuckers of today the same quality as the Rockchuckers of yester-year? There was a recent manufacturing period where quality slipped and lots of on-line dialog about the castings being made in China.

One really nice feature with the Lee Classic Cast is the center bore in the ram that drops primers out the bottom. I don't think RCBS has incorporated that feature in their presses.

I overthought the problem and I just pulled the trigger on the Rock Chucker this afternoon. I'll take the loss of $240 on the entire kit as a learning experience. Owego is a 3 hour drive so a day commitment. I'll see if I can work it in.

I started with a Rock Chucker a few years back that I still currently use. I did get myself a Dillon 550 for my high volume pistol loading but the single stage is still my go to when I want good rifle ammo. You won't regret the Rock Chucker one bit!
