Has anyone had a chance to play with the new Elite LRHS 4.5-18x 44mm scope? I am looking at one for my 7mm build. I love it when a company builds a product for a particular hunter group and nails it, this appears to be that product.

For comparison sake, Im also looking at the Sightron SIII 6-24x50 MOA2 FFP and the Nightforce 5-20x56 SHV. The magnification and objective size of the Elite LRHS appeal more to me though. I only have experience with the SIII, and it was very good to my eyes.

Lets hear some input, anyone compare any of these scopes?

I don't think its out yet. I was looking for info on it and there's not a whole lot out other than a thread on snipershide with the reticle. I'm in the same boat, I am looking hard at the 3.5-21 for my 338 edge, I know its heavy but about what the NXS is. I was dead set on the shv but I would really like having a little lower bottom end. I have thought about the 4.5-30 as well.

I got the XRS 4.5x30.
I could count tines on a small buck at 1100 yards. I mean they were about 2" long.
I have shot out to 1300 yards and a great picture of my target through this lens at 30 power. Yes it is a pig and yes the turrets are so big that it makes it difficult to carry the rifle in your hand.
Would I change anything? NO. I can see everything I aim at and I can hit everything I aim at.

FFP scopes with fairly complex reticles often times end up being a glorified gun mounted monocular when you start getting the scope power below 8x. because the reticle washes out so bad. for me often times the best chances to make shots are first and last light. I also leave my scopes on low power because often times I am not needing to shoot that far. If I do I go to max power. SFP is a better fit for this.

I should clarify my purpose and price, purpose is short & long range capability, good reticle for wind, and preferably under 30 oz as well. Price is about 1k. The 5-20 powers really appeal to me, but 6 is a bit high as I often hunt in thick griz country and keep my scope low for that reason. Open to other suggestions too

I have 2 SHV. 4-16 and the 5-20. I also have a sightron S3 8-32X56. It would be a toss up as which one has better glass. I like them both. If you are wanting to use the reticle to shoot in the wind, maybe look at the MOA 1000 offered by Bob Beck. Basically a modified MOAR reticle with windage dots. To busy for me but I can see that it could be a nice reticle.

The 4.5-18 LRHS isn't available yet. The 3-12 is a fav of many hunters over on the Hide though. I suspect it's big brother will come with just as much awesome sauce.

I do the same right now w my vortes HS 4-16, but if the max power on my next scope is 20 or 24 I doubt if I will always go to the max on my shots, if not the SFP reticles can be hard to make quick wind calls and it becomes easier to make mistakes for hold, yep...done that. I do wonder though how that LRHS reticle would look at 4.5x with FFP.

"Have you looked at the Sightron S-TAC ? 2.5-17x56"

Looks like a great scope, maybe a bit too tacktical for my mostly hunting purposes.

And finally I did not realize the 4.5-18 Elite LRH scope wasn't out yet. Im not familiar with the Elite series but I hear great things from them. Will keep my eyes out for future posts from you guys, I have 4 months till my build is done anyways.

I have the 6500 elite 4x30 50mm with mil dot reticle on my DPMS LR 338 federal on LaRue quick release mounts.

I don't understand why folks can't make a mil hash reticle on a SFP scope that is not accurate on it's highest power setting. A sfp 5-20 or a 4-16 power scope with a reticle similar to a Moar that was accurate on say 15 and 12 power would be all one ever needed for hunting. Most of my shots come within the first or last 30 minutes in fading light when it's too dark to use a scope on it's max setting. The only one I know of is IOR and they weigh more than most rifles.

I am really startingt to see both of your points here, looked at some FFP reticles and in low light, low power, they may be impossible to see. I think the SFP in a top power of 14-16x will be a better fit. The NH SHV MOA 1000 scope on the EOL store does look apprealing, really wish that one had a zero stop though with only 10 moa per rev. How do you guys think the Leupold Mark 4 4-14x50 competes with the others listed?

I have never really understood the problem with ffp scopes and the reticle size at low power. If I'm using a scope at three power I can still see the cross hair portion just fine and if I need to make a longer shot I can dial or turn the power up and use the reticle. It's not that the ffp reticle is useless at low power it just needs to be used diffrently.

I would really like to see vortex bring out a 4x16x50 ffp with razor glass and the 2bc reticle..would be the perfect scope for me....
