hello fellow members. i'm here once again with help on a scope choice for my .300 win mag without a muzzle brake. i've narrowed my choices to the burris xtr2 4-20x50mm w/34mm tube $1000, or the sightron Siii 6-24x50mm w/30mm tube $750-800 or the burris veracity 4-20x50mm w/30mm tube $750. please let me know any personal experience you have with any of these scopes. i have decided on these 3 and dont need any of the the gazillion other choices listed for me just which of these 3 you think would be best for my rifle and engaging targets out to 1000yds. thanks for your input i truly appreciate it

I've had some disappointing experiences with Burris scopes. Specifically their ability to hold a setting and to return to previous POA.
On the other hand, my Sightron experiences have all bee positive.
Therefore, IMO, the Sightron Siii 6-24x50mm w/30mm tube would be first choice from the list of options offered.

Plus 1 on the sightron. I can't say I've ever had any experience with all the scopes you mentioned, but all the sightron scopes I've been around have always been excellent scopes in all aspects.

Don't want to assume anything but is the SIII you're considering one of the new FFPs, since both the Burris' are FFPs? If not, it boils down to personal preference -- SFP or FFP? Having said that, I don't think you can go wrong with your choices. I am very pleased with my 4-20x50 Burris Veracity ...

Good luck!

I too have had burris problems. some wouldn't hold zero out of the box, So quit holding zero after exposure to some recoil, some just wouldn't even come close tracking and one brand new on spit the front lense on the bench after two shots out of my 300 wby. Enough that I wont buy them anymore. I have absolutely no experience with sightron but given that choise would take one over a burris. Heck id probably take a tasco over a buris. Now im talking the mid grade burris scopes here. Ive never had a high end one and to be honest would take a botton end leupold or Nikon over a top end burris anyday.

The Sightron 6-24 has worked well for me from 6mm up to Armalite 50bmg. The only thing I wish they would change is zeroing out the turrets, which isn't a big deal since you should only have to do it once.

Not sure what Burris model or what you consider a mid-grade Burris scope but I have a 4.5-14x42 FFII on my .338 Win Mag with hundreds of 225 grainers shot without any issues.

That's quite a bold statement esp. when you have no hands on experience with any of the OP's scope list.

its the full fields ive had trouble with. Ive never owned a fullfield II though as like I said I had so many problems with the originals that I lost interest

Your unfortunate experience regardless of brand does not warrant your bold statement or of any help to the OP. BTW, I too had troubles with Leupolds and Nikons.

To the OP, as I previously noted, "you can't go wrong with your list"

Gentlemen, thank you for your input! Sorry I've been slow to respond. With all that I've heard I'm guessing I should be safe with any of my choices and that its basically boiled down to best price and which bells and whistles I want or am willing to sacrifice! i really appreciate the help I recieve from all of you here! Couldn't ask for a better group of guys! And ladies as I'm sure there are some in the group I dont want to over look!

I would have to say that if hes undecided which of these scopes to buy that my real world experiences and feedback on the burris scopes is a lot more relevant then this post. Don't know why Nikon or leupold was even brought into the conversation

Sorry but the OP specifically asked for personal experiences on the specific scopes on his list of choices, not the model you had a misfortune with ...

Everybody else did just that. As far as the Leupolds and Nikons, you brought it up yourself ...

BTW, if you open one of the links I provided, you'll see this comment from a resident SME ...

I spent some time at the Burris booth at the SHOT Show looking at the Veracity and XTR-II scopes. I came away pretty excited. The Veracity model line is changing my attitude toward FFP for hunting. I recall that both scope lines are made in the Philippines at a different factory than where the Fullfield-based models are made. Here is a synopsis.

Burris tends to leverage a single optical design for multiple scope model lines. Burris has taken that to the extreme with the E1 optical designs. AFAIK, XTR II and Veracity models of the same magnification use the same optics as well. I spent more time looking at the Veracity models because I like the multi-purpose reticle designs. The Veracity scopes were typical of Burris optical quality: good resolution, high contrast, and no tunneling in the erector over 5:1 zoom ratio. I also recall seeing no obscuration at low magnification when the elevation was rotated to the limit.

All of the Veracity scopes have MOA/MOA reticle and turrets. The E1 FFP reticle on the 2-10X and 3-15X models seems like a good compromise between low mag visibility of the thick lines, and minimal obstruction of the scene at high mag. The tapered hick lines should be effective at drawing your eye to the center in low light when the magnification is set to a low value. I think the modified E1 FFP Varmint reticle on the 4-20X and 5-25X models is an excellent long range MOA/MOA set-up. It has more windage hold-off marks on the crosshair than the E1 FFP reticle.

The BDC hold-offs enable quick short range shots up to about 600 yds, although I really prefer BDC reticles in the SFP position so that I can force the hold off lines to fall on even ranges vales like 300, 400, 500 yds, etc., by using the zoom ring to "calibrate" the reticle.

The turret clicks were stiffer than the E1 scopes, but not as sharp as some others I've felt. The zero stop was excellent, but I did not have a chance to pull the knobs off to inspect the mechanism. I recall the knob had unlimited rotation above zero.
