Limiting my cartridges

I've tried slimming down, it doesn't usually last but do what you please. If you really wanted to get down for my needs I could trim your list really hard and only keep the ones you need.

22lr (small critters)
223 rem (coyotes and such)
6.5 grendel
6.8 spc
243 win
6.5 creedmoor
7 RM (any thing with legs)

I agree with most of your selection I really like my 17 HMR I'd probably be more apt to keep that and ditch the 22 long rifle and possibly keep the 243 and get rid of the 223 little bigger spread in the calibers

Yes, that would do it wouldn't it? 17HMR/243/7RM/12gauge would also work well. Especially considering I have 3 shotguns, 3 22's, 4 223's, 2 6.5 Grendel, and 3 6.5 CM of various action types, weights, lengths.

I did say I was cutting back on cartridges, not necessarily firearms

I seen to be broadening mine when it comes to AR's. I'm starting to add short mags to the lineup. 6.5prc on order (barrel) and 270wsm, 7mils( possible a hard no), 300rcm over other saum and wsm, necking up a 325wsm to 338 will be in the works when I can get an annealer and finally necking up a wsm to .458 for a high power 45-70.

With a decent selection of rifles and shotguns I find myself wanting to kick myself in the *** every time I sell something. With a dad that is gun instructor I'm always getting new to me guns . The current collection has

5 or 6 different 22lr rifles and pistols some of which are rare and collected also my dad's first 22

Then there are the 17hmr and mach2
A couple 30-06 I think I've still got atleast 2
Two 300 win mags
A 338 win mag
A375 ruger

A couple 308 bolt and semi
Several ar 15 rifles
Shot guns in 12 gauge ( pump ,auto,and sxs,also some over under
A couple 20 gauge
A 16 gauge
And several different types of pistols
I work alot and don't get much free time (82 hour work week) but what I've got gets used at some point and are cleaned .
It's the reloading that takes me some time .
Most of the youth modle guns I've sold or traded for other guns and kick myself for doing so . As I currently donate them to promote youth hunting here in Arizona . For you Arizona guys you can enter your kids to win guns and gear . You can find info on az monster muleys or coues whitetail . Sorry but it's only open to Arizona residents.

I am looking to downsize my collection and shoot fewer rifles more often. I'm not thinking about anything crazy, but have realized a lot of my cartridges significantly overlap and with the cost of ammo these days and limited time I'm going to sell some rifles and ammo and put the money into rifles, ammo, and shooting courses. So, what cartridges do you currently own that you could live without? I don't my mind having more than one rifle in some cartridges to serve different purposes, but plan to limit myself to what I and my family will realistically use.

I'm planning on getting rid of the 243, 7RM, 6.8 SPC, and possibly the 223. Will probably end up keeping it, and if I can find some good gopher hunting country nearby get a really accurate varmint rifle.

I just added a Keystone Cricket in 22lr and a youth shotgun in 410 for teaching my boys. They love my 10/22's, but the length of pull is really too long for them at the moment.

I have a Gunwerks Nexus in 6.5 PRC and 300 PRC enroute which is the big impetus to sell some seldom used rifles and ammunition. Plus, I'd rather shoot than clean, maintain, store and organize rifles and ammo (I'm very particular about taking care of my things).

What would you get rid of? Do you have any cartridges that overlap too much to justify keeping both?

I did the same thing years ago. Only to stumble across some random 7mmRem reloading supplies ….and a few years (and seven 7mm wsm, 08..ect) later. I enjoy the reloading process and the constant "search".

Sounds like you have some solid platforms coming in..enjoy.

LOL - so much depends on which guns you really like - how well they shoot, etc. - and who is going to shoot them.

Your kids might like using the .243 for example - fairly mild kicking.

I would not sell any of them , but I would keep the 17, 243 and the Creedmoor to train the boys and hunt . I would have the stocks shortened and probably the barrels also. this is what I did to rifles in the gun vault for my children , then passed them down to my grands when they came along. My girls are very small adults and still hunt with the 7-08's and 243's I modified for them. All the triggers have had the seers polished and poundage reduced with all creep gone. They have been shooting since they were 4. They still hunt with loads worked up 40 years ago with great success , deer and hogs .

OP, don't sell them, you will regret it!

I love the Ruger No1 plateform, a few years ago I started selling them because they became safe queens.

I went from 7 down to 1, what a mistake. The ones I sold were standard calibers, now I only have custom stuff, 24 Krag AI, 6.5 PRC, 300 Rum, 338 Gibbs. Wanting to build a 20 Tactical.

Now I'm back up to 4, looking for more.

Looking back, I regrete every rifle I've ever sold! Want them all back.

I'd never get rid of a 243 I'd say the 17 the Grendel and the spc would have to go. Personally I'd keep them all though lol

I am not a proponent of selling personal collections, although to be fair I have let a few close friends talk me out of a few things. I have 2 boys so I need 2 of everything to make sure I leave them both a good collection. Besides if you build your collection wisely nothing holds its value better. Right now I need to build a safe room or buy another safe but that has not slowed me down, closing in on triple digits.

With 2 youngsters at that age I would definitely keep the 17 HMR and 22lr for teaching good habits.
