6.5saum finally

Ok so maybe I have a real slow lot of h1000. I put some rl-26 in it and it woke up a little. All these grouped into a 1 inch group. Now to do a proper satterlee test with 26. I wonder how retumbo will do too.

Rl 26 comes from unicorn poop. First you have to find a unicorn then you need to follow it around and collect. Then dry and grind. If a fairy grinds it all the better. 🤣

I tried retumbo being one of my all time favorites. Speed is Midway between the h1000 and rl 26. But man the accuracy is going to be hard to walk away from. Here is the numbers and group. That right over 1/4 moa over 2.5 gr of powder difference. Yikes.

62.5 had a very slight click at top but no ejector swipe and primers are rounded still. Might be able to do 62.7 but didn't. Somewhere between 62 and 62.5 should hammer and be close to 3100 when broke in all the way.

Speed is good, but accuracy is better. Mine shot the best with H1000.

When you find that one hole group between 62 and 62.5, I would "settle" for that and not fret about whether it reaches 3100 or not. The critters will never know the difference :D

I'm sure they won't care how fast that bullet is going. And retumbo is better for temp sensitivity and barrel life over rl26. I'll save the rl26 for my 243ai. 243 size cases love rl26.
Gun is soaking might shoot more later but grass is growing an inch a day right now and I got to contend with that right now.
Stay tuned.

Rick I think my h1000 is on the slower burn rate for some reason. My rifle was slow as poop with it. The accuracy was there but why have a saum that barely beats my Creed.

Looking back in my records other cartridges I tried this h1000 with were too slow too. Probably time to just get a new 8 pounder and try again. I use h1000 in my slr and 243ai with the 115dtacs.
The retumbo loads are a good fill ratio.
62.5 puts it right at the neck or just a hair under. I don't hear or feel any compression of kernels seating but once seated I don't hear any shaking either so I would guess it's in the high 90s for fill percentage. I just ran some new wet patches through the bore and it had just the lightest trace of copper. Pretty amazing how little copper this barrel gets. I'm gonna run a Satterlee test with retumbo from 61 to 62.5 and then work on some groups with seating changed and see how it does..

No problem. I get lots of members private messages about tuning so I figured this would be an easy way to show you how I do it from the ground up. I do my hunting and target guns exactly the same.
