Im buying my lapua next week. But I heard about the allen magnum shooting a 300 gr @3500 fps.
And was wondering after I buy my savage 338 if I find myself wanting more will the 338am fit in this gun and the ai magazine? I read you can modify the mag to fit the longer lapua shells. Just wondering I couldn't find the rim diameter or coal by google. But I seen pictures compared to other calibers. Its a monster to say the least.

An Allen Mag is based on the 408 cheytac case. I don't believe it will fit into a savage (bolt face is way too small). My OAL is about 4.1"

They both launch at 300 gr at 3400-3500 ? If so how is it improved? I guess I could fit the 338 Excalibur in the savage it has 3.75" coal and a rimless .579 or might be rebated. Not sure how it compares to the lapua or allen mag

Ok the 338 exlcalibur has 3300fps with a 250gr inst the lapua 3000 fps with same weight? I can't afford a 408 size action. Wonder what it would do in a 30-33" barrel

Goto Home Page to get all you questions answered.

I shoot one of Kirby's 338 AXs with 300g Bergers at nearly 3K fps with 29" barrel.

If you find yourself wanting more than Lapua, my suggestion would be 338x378wby mag with a 32" 9.6 or 9.7 twist barrel. It fits the same bolt face and should fit the mag and will get you around 3100fps with the 300grn'ers.

I havnt shot anything bigger than a 7mm rem mag so who knows maybe I wont get bored lol. Plus I like the lapua because I think its here to stay

Lots of ideas here but I always been mystified by the 338 Excalibur for some reason I know brass is high and data is scarce but that's the fun part something different. Quality cartridge has it in their list of brass casings. 80$ for 20 for jamison brass but they are out of business. Still might be fun. But for now I got the savage lapua soon to be ordered and gonna try and get some 325gr rocky mountain bullets loaded to 2700 fps. Though who knows what the coal will be. Do know I want a modified magazine to take the longer lapua loadings

Kirby is working now on a new improved wildcat or two off that case and there is new brass available that's harder and cheaper.
