Why not a 300 wby?

I have recently picked up a used 300wby and just yesterday purchesded
Imr 7828 SSC
Weatherby Brass
215m fed primers
Berger 200.20X hybrids

Once it all comes in and my rifle gets back from smith, I will slap my new Leupold VX5HD 3-15x56 on it and see how it does!!!!
Will sight in for 100yds and have a local range that stretches out to 800yds!!! Extremely excited to test it out!!

Anyone loaded this combo before?

the PRC family is growing. wonder what is next? 7mm, 6mm, 338. I guess whatever caliber has the longest and slipperiest bullets.
nothing wrong with the 300Wby. Its been around for a long time; a world wide following.... rifles and factory ammo everywhere. great for 200 gr. and heavier bullets with slow powder. it will get the job done. weather you love em or hate em, the Weatherby name is recognized everywhere for the magnum cartridges and Mark V action. reloading for me, specifically bullet seating is a different mind set than loading a 308 win or similar cartridge. distance off the lands is not in the picture or calculation. placement of the bullet shank in the neck is where its at.... base of bullet relationship to base of neck..... just my way of doing things for this one.

I purchased a WBY Mark V Ultralight in 300 WBY Mag in 2014. it shot very well with factory ammo however the recoil was something else and the muzzle jump extreme. Put a Holland muzzle brake on it, reloaded with 180 Accubonds, IMR 7828 and Federal 215 primers and it shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards. I purchase Norma Spitzer factory ammo and most groups are under an inch. Some of that brass has been reloaded 8 or 9 times. No more expensive to reload than any other cartridge! My two cents worth and I could not be happier.

I won't buy anything Hornady Parent, it takes too long to get decent brass from others. 6.5 Creedmoor took wings because of that. 6.5 x 47 Lapua will always be a fine Cartridge. It was designed right from the start, as it uses the best Brass.

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with the 300 Weatherby.

Accurate as you can ask for. Hits hard. Flat shooting. Put a 180 grain Barnes TTSX bullet in it and hunt EVERYTHING in North America.

The only downfall to the weatherbys is that you need a long action rather than a standard length action. And you need a 26" barrel to take advantage of the increased powder capacity. So generally 300s are a little more cumbersome to carry in the bush or take a little more room in the cab while your cruising the back roads.

I have Weatherby Mark V and a Ruger No. 1 both in 300 Wby Mag. Cow moose running across a field angling away at 250 yards, that Barnes sailed through her and she was down in 50 yards from a full run.

Factory ammo is available from a variety of suppliers. Years ago it was only a Weatherby thing but it's pretty darn popular and any store that's going to carry something like a 28 nosler for sure carries multiple types of 300 Weatherby ammo.

I used one as my primary hunting cartridge for perhaps 5 years. I made impressive kills on whitetail out to 576 yards. The accuracy was better than average. I sold it and bought a Sako TRG in 30-378 Weatherby that was much more accurate and flat shooting. I still have perhaps 80 handloaded 300 Weatherby ready to go when I buy another.

With regards to WBY freebore, if it shoots the factory premium ammo lights out, why worry? No problem with anyone who prefers to experiment with handloading, but it you get great accuracy without it and are not concerned with the extra cost of the WBY premium ammo, then to each their own.
