Who’s Chambering Rifles in SAUM ?

Virtually every custom gunsmith (if they are a REAL gunsmith) can chamber for any of the SAUM cartridges if they have the reamer. Reamers can also be rented if you need that approach.

I've been shooting the 6.5 GAP 4S since George developed it somewhere around 2012 as a PRS competition cartridge. At the beginning all brass had to made by hand from 7mm RSAUM brass since it was the only source. That source became exhausted so we switched to the .300 RSAUM brass which was a little more of a PIA to make obviously.

Finally Hornady came through with the factory cases head stamped 6.5 GAP 4S and GAP got the first 50,000 pieces to sell. It was sold out in the first day. The second batch of 100,000 was sold out in 3 days. It is currently available from GAP.

The case for either the 6.5 SAUM or the 6.5 GAP 4S is the same. The variations came from the throat designs and throat lengths. Check your desires first before ordering a reamer for particular bullets or magazine lengths.

Remington originally chambered factory rifles since the RSAUM was their design. There are still some of these rifles available on the secondary market.

Now though Hornady, for their lust to dominate the brass market, has released all of the PRC cases at prices slightly less than the SAUM case design. So if price drives your cartridges choice, the PRC cases will save you a little money. Be aware that Hornady cases will not last for the larger number of shots per case that the better brands will. This can sway shooters into choosing the better cases for more more longevity without having to replace your brass as often.

Elk will die when shot with the .243 Win. cartridge and the proper bullet/placement. So don't hesitate to choose the 6.5 SAUM/PRC for your elk rifle. Pick the right bullet, develop the best load and go hunting. Simple.
