I was just about to order a Timney Trigger and set it at 1.5 lbs. I have a 40X trigger set at that weight and extremely happy with it. The gentlemen i was going to purchase it from said Timneys could have an issue being set that low. that the sear engagement wont set or reset properly. I started looking up similar problems and it seems more common then not that people are having issues or not fully liking there Timney.

He recommend a rifle basix as i am sort of on a budget. I looked them up and had pretty good reviews.

I know everyone likes Jewell triggers but this rifle will be used for hunting and shooting prone (dirt) and have heard jewells might not stand up the best due to super tight tolerances. So which trigger would you go with if hunting will be one of the main purposes?

I have each of the three that you have mentioned. I really like the Jewel the best, but for the money I like the Rifle Basix. If I were to choose between the Timney and the Rifle Basix, I would pay the extra and get the Basix.

Tony.

I have installed a few rifle basix one for myself and a couple for others. I also have a Jewel. I like the Jewel best but the Basix is a really good trigger. it can be set fairly low with reasonable consistnacy

If your putting it on a Remington 700, you can't beat the Shilen....I have one set to 1.5 lbs on a custom and it feels just like a Jewel. Same three lever type, but isn't as sensitive to dirt. $95 at midway usually. gunsmith was very impressed as well.

I dont really like the fact Shilen doesn't come with a safety. I know there is a kit but rather just go with a complete trigger. Im just worried with jewell in a rifle that will be used for hunting incase dirt gets up there and i have any issues.

i wont go lighter then 1.5# so i dont see why go with rifle basix, but if timney's are having problems with 1.5# pull weights i cant go with them either.

Sorry i dind't mean to put it in this topic in this category, little mistake.

they just take the safety off your old style Remington trigger, or you have to order the kit. overall it's an amazing trigger. as good as a jewel for 35% of the cost....more tolerant to dirt.....goes lighter than a timney. Really I can't complain. it is really that good

I had the Shilen on my Rem 700 also. Ground and wire EDM'ed tool steel with the sears lapped, not cast or metal injection molded stuff. Shilen males a quality product. I have had 2 rifle basix triggers on savage rifles and I am not impressed.

If you don't want to take your trigger group apart to clean it, a can of carb and choke cleaner works really good. I have never cleaned my trigger with anything other than the carb and choke cleaner (and that's about every 500 rounds). I have never had any problems.
