Vortex Razor spotter

I have the money saved up for a new spotting scope ($1500) and I am looking close at the Razor. My only concern is the size and weight of it, I will use it from my backpack about 1/2 the time.

What kind of tripod do you guys use when backpacking?

Do any of you guys use it for a backpacking spotter?

Is it too big?

I have the Razor and it is a BIG spotter. I use it from a bench and for that the size doesn't matter. I have seen it on several of the long range hunting shows but I don't know how far from a truck they are, or how many guys they have carrying their gear.

If you are going horseback I think it would be a load. But if you are driving in and then walking that should be manageable.

I paid $1100 new from a dealer and at that price IMO I don't think there is anything that can touch it. If the mirage isn't bad I can see 30cal. bullet holes at 1000 yds. on 60x.
