Great job. I have yet to break the 400 yard mark. For me, here in WV the shot opportunities for over about 250 yards are very limited. I've actually only made one attempt at past 400 and I missed. I had an equipment malfunction apparently because when I checked it the next day it was shooting high. And I shot about 16" over the Deers back at 477 yards. Cheap scopes will burn you. one of these days I'll get another shot. I'm going to clear a few trees at my farm this winter so I can see across to the next ridge. Not JUST so I can try to shoot a deer farther, there is actually no way to hunt that side of the mountain from the same side. When you're over there you simply can't see anywhere. From some ranging I did this past week I'll have shots between 350 and 450 across there. Maybe a couple spots at 500. Maybe. But again I'll say I'm not just trying to ATTEMPT long shots. I just want to be able to hunt that extra 15 or 20 acres. I have shot a lot of steel at my buddies at 500 and am very confident in my rifles and me at that range. I don't believe I'd have any problem hitting a deer at 750 because I've shot a lot out to there also, but I'm not sure my loads carry enough fps for reliable expansion ther because I shoot Nosler BT bullets. They work great at sub 300 yard shots which is 99% of my shots.

Great job on a nice buck.

Thank you for the reply. I have to say that if it weren't for this site and all the information that has been offered up by all the members here that I may not have taken that shot. I spent all summer working on a load and shooting at ranges to 400 to gain the confidence in all the equipment that I have to take a shot that long! Again thank you for the reply and thanks for the site and all of its members with all the knowledge!

I have to agree. I have learned so much from this site. The people here are great and most are eager to help. 5 years ago I thought a 200 yard shot was a long shot. Now after all I've learned here and practicing 500 yards is not a hard shot to me and now I consider long past 650 or 700. The last time I did some practice shooting i took 10 cold bore shots at 500 yards over a period of about 3 -4 hours. We did a lot of shooting of other guns and just every so often I'd set up and shoot at that target like setting up on an animal. At the end of the day when I collected that target I had a 3.5" group for 10 shots at 500 yards. Considering the wind was different on every shot and many other changes as the day progressed I am very happy with that. And I owe a lot of that to this site. So I guess I'm just kind of says thanks to all here.
