Stock to Barrel ratio

OK, Looking to learn if there's a stock to barrel length ratio, meaning how much support should the stock give in barrel length.
I'm building a stock from a blank replacing the factory barrel with a 29" Bull Barrel, So I'd like to find out if say half the barrel needs to be supported by the stock, or what this ratio would be.

If the barrel is properly free floated the stock doesn't support anything in front of the recoil lug.

For appearance, I like the stock to extend over half the length of the barrel.

If it is a 24 to 28" a standard stock will look ok. If it is longer I like to add a tip a few inches long
to offset the looks of a very long barrel.

As for function, Like FearNoWind said it really doesn't matter.
