I have been considering building a .300wm for long range for some time now. I have an opportunity to buy a Stevens 200 rifle for $250. It is chambered in .300wm. I was hoping to get some opinions on this platform for a starting point. I know that Stevens is a stripped down Savage and it seems that Savage has become a very popular rifle to build off of. I have no experience with Savage. So any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Or should I just pay the extra and buy a 110 and go from there? After looking around I see very few stocks that will fit this action since it has the centerfeed mag.

I have one stevens build and s couple built on the savage. I like both. The barrel on the Stevens came off one of my savages and I didnt have to tweak my load or rework it. It shot the same load just rhe same.

I have a build going now on a Stevens action. I chose the Bods prairie hunter for the stock, and like it very well so far. I also went with the SSS comp trigger. it was a breeze to install and goes fro 12oz to 2lbs. I set mine at 1lbs 3oz. I like the dull finish of the Stevens for a hunting rig. JMO

if your going to upgrade the trigger on your build the stevens is fine to use. if you plan on staying with the factory trigger the savage is worth the extra just for the accutrigger alone.

Stevens action
Benchmark barrel
Rifle Basix trigger
Stockade, Bell & Carlson, XLR Industries, McCree, McMillian, or Manners Stock! If you are able to work on wood, Richards Microfit Stocks are a great alternative laminate that you can pillar bed and epoxy bed. Stockade are Savage/Stevens specialists.
Stockade 3/4" Bolt handle with lift lift kit
EGW HD 20MOA base
Burris XTR, EGW, or Weaver Tac rings.

Under $1300 for the whole build depending on which stock you go for. Good luck!

I'm slowly building on a Stevens platform. I think if you can get the Stevens for $250 or under that is definitely the way to go.

No... there is plenty of stocks available for it, a stevens 200 centerfeed will fit a savage 110-116 centerfeed because the footprint of the action is the same, BUY IT!!! BUY IT BEFORE ITS GONE!!! MY savage 111 7mm rem mag's best group is .278 at 100 yards!!! Thats less than the bullets diameter, (measure outside to outside, then subtract the bullets diameter by that number). My father has built a savage 116 in 300 win mag and its best group is .276. Not bad for a rifle with a custom muzzle break, new stock, and a 20 moa rail.
