First post on the forum, but have been lurking forever trying to absorb as much info as possible.

Anyways, ready to start loading some of the new 225's for a 300WM and have been having trouble finding a good starting charge weight for doing ladder testing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the specs:

-COAL: 3.670" (this gives a .020 jump, which is where I used to start with the Amax's)
-Brass: Virgin Nosler (neck sized only)
-Primer: CCI 250
-Powder: H1000

Also have a pound of RL26 that I might try just for kicks. Any
starting loads for that would be appreciated as well, but H1000 will most likely be my go to.

Thanks everyone

I have the brand new Hornady manual, and it has the new 225 grain ELD-M, but unfortunately it doesn't list a load for H1000 or R26 in .300 win mag.
However it lists the 220 grain ELD-X which is pretty **** close.

220 gr
b.c..650
c.o.l. 3.340
H1000 65.9#2,400 ----75.3#2,700

220 gr
b.c.650
c.o.l. 3.340
R26 61.5#2,400 ----74.4#2,850

With the 225 I would figure max will be about a grain or two less than max for the 220.
Good luck.

Smithjasona1978, thanks for the reply.

Once I try some charge weights out I'll report back here with what I've found as well.

I know this thread is kind of old but FINALLY got around to doing some load development.

It's a factory barreled action with nothing done to it besides an initial cleaning, sitting in an XLR Carbon with a Bushnell LRTS.

Been slowly working up to find pressure since there wasn't much info on it. Anyways shot 10 separate 3 round groups at 200 today, I know 5 is better and 10 even more so but just working on load development right now...

Over the 10 groups the best was .25 MOA and the worst was 1.05 MOA, with an average of all the groups at .57 MOA.

Cartridge specs:
225gn Hornady ELD-M
Nosler Virgin Brass, neck sized only
CCI 250 Primer
COAL: 3.670"

Very very slight pressure signs with 75.5 grains of RL26 at a velocity of 2904 FPS, SD of 8.

No pressure signs reached with H1000 yet but have worked up to 77.5 grains at a velocity of 2826 FPS, SD of 3.

These loads are well above book max for most of the heavy 30 cal bullets so if you're using the new ELD-M start low and work up.

Hopefully this info helps someone.

Hey what's the barrel length on your rifle? I am just trying to get a idea what kind of velocity I will get with the 225 eld-m out of my .300 wby with a 24 inch. I was just about half done developing a load for the 208 eld-m when the 225 came out. Not sure its worth the trouble.

I have not, RL-26 has been working so well that I probably wouldn't even be messing with H1000 if I didn't have 8lbs of it...

Didn't think that over 2900 fps was going to be possible with a 225gr in a standard 300WM though.
