spotting scope

looking for a good used spotting scope $250-$300 25-40 power not against a 60x
finding deer and elk if not counting their hairs
how do the slightly older Kowas, Nikons, Bushnell Elites compare?
Is there a "sleeper" scope out there that I should look for?

Have you looked at the Vortex product lineup?

If you can find a Kowa used TSN 553. that would suite you quite well. Might be a tad over your budget, but if you cheap out too much you will notice severe eye strain if your glassing for prolonged periods. Its also very light weight and packable
