Let me put this into perspective a little bit.... but first let me thank you for eating some crab. Lord knows we need it eaten.
So the Bering Sea shut down this year because of low recruiting numbers, but for reasons unknown other districts have crab opulence. Not enough to offset the loss in the bering, but it will fill the gap. On the flip side the newfoundland and Labrador snow crab quota increase is bigger than the loss of the bearing sea. Combined with recession that we pretend isn't here....and after 15 days of striking we settled on a 60% price cut at the dock. Suffice to say when April kicks off in Newfie territory, I'd expect prices to stay low.
