My son and I spent the day shooting, had a great time. Shooting at a 24" diameter steel plate. .338 Big Baer (.408/.338) and a .338 Baer (about the same as .338 Lapua just a tad faster) Me shooting the Big Baer cold bore hit at one mile. My son shooting the .338 Baer and shooting 300 Win Mag 4X12 Redfield 5 star Goldstar (ran out of clicks had to hold for elevation)

Looks like the same spot the bear came from?
What case is he using for the smaller 338 ?
Next time you talk with Bruce ask him how he liked Mikes place.
For the 338 Baer using 340 Weatherby or the 300 Weatherby case by any manufacturer you choose.

It is the same spot.

He uses the 340 Wetherby case on his 284 and 308 Baer chambers as well.
Your son will no doubt be getting a different scope base with more taper.
He might do better by using 250 gr bullets also.
My son uses a 40 minit taper on his 338x378.
When you get to a mile the differences in cartridges becomes very noticeable.
In all my years doing this, i only know 1 man whoes word i trust who has killed a (buck) at a mile in Pa.
And he used a 338x378 with a 250 gr bullet.
Shooting at a bunch of doe and having one fall over isnt quite the same. lol

If you're referring to my son shooting his 300 Win Mag, he never intended to shoot beyond 500 yards but after shooting at 825 yards and hitting a military size silhouette, he is going to put a new scope on and limit his distance to 600 yards while hunting and stalking. His rifle is a browning medallion 300 win mag.
