I have an opportunity for buy a .270 rifle for my son, it has 24" 5R barrel. I was hoping to be 1:10 or faster. What are your thoughts for .150 grainers?

Thank you in advance for your comments.

OOPS! Should have been Win not WM.

I will assume you mean for longer range shooting. I wouldn't even look at the gun. For
some reason the 6.8's have gone to short range popularity in the ar's instead of long bullets for long range. a 1:10 would be ok but I would still be looking at a 6.5 for sheer
availability in projectiles and case choices. .260, 6.5x55, the list goes on and on.

Loner,

Thanks for your input. My son has other rifles and calibers but he was interested on the TC Venture in .270 WM and .150g pills. My .270 in 1:10 likes the .150g NBTs but I am not sure with 1:12 twist.

BignGreen, Bergers 130's even need a 1:11 in their vld hunting. The .270 just hasn't
been brought along in the long range shooting like the 6.5's and 7's on each side of it.
No doubt it can be.

In MT our elevation lets us get away with a little more, I shoot 150's from a 1-11 twist and 165 and 175 Matrix from a 1-10 twist 270 WSM, my buddies 1-12 shoots 140's great. The 270 is getting some love from some bullet makers and Royinidaho, and with the 270 WSM and what it's capable of with a .650+ bullet I think you'll see them do well.
At any rate I would not bite on a 1-12 twist 270 unless you are buying a varmint/antelope rifle and then shoot 110 TTSX, if you want to wack elk the 1-10 twist with a 165 Matrix is the ticket!!!!!!
