My gunsmith wants a dummy round to throat my gun. It's an Edge on a Win model 70.

I want a repeater so Wyatt's offers a 3.850" box. I know a lot of guys are getting better velocity out of a longer COAL and my gunsmith can modify the Wyatt's box to make it bigger.

My question is:

Would the gain in velocity from say 3.850" to 3.950" be beneficial in this cartridge? From what I have read during my search here, most 338 Edge's are using about 3.725-3.820" OAL.

Thank you for any advice.
