Scope quality question

My first post - newbie!
I have a buddy that has a Bushnell Elite 4200 Tactical 30mm Tube 6-24x 50mm Side Focus Mil-Dot he want to sell me. I will only use it for range practice and maybe on my F/TR (being built).
Sighted his M14 (308 50 rounds), he wants $500 slight ring marks from the med-TPS rings which are included.
$500 a decent price for the scope & rings, only have Bushnell banner on my CZ453, first higher $ scope purchase (top of my spending limit - after rifle build)

Everything I've read says they're good scopes, I don't own one but have been considering it. You can buy a brand new one for ~$520 and those TPS rings probably cost $100. I hate ring marks but it doesn't sound like a bad deal if they're the only flaw and small.
