Hey guys was curious if anyone knew anything about the San Juan mule deer hunt in Utah. Of course I'm too late to put in for the hunt but I can wait till next year. The area I'm talking about is by Canyonlands and Blanding. Looks like some real good country that can hold some bucks. If you guys have any information about this area I would like to hear it. Any information will be appreciated thanks.

Hi So I had that rifle tag last year, I drew it with only 7 points. Took a nice buck on opening morning 31.25" wide and total bone was 187gross. Interesting unit I have never scouted on it before and there are 28" deer all over the side of the road. With that being said I talked to another group of hunters that drew with only 2 points. Luckier then I am but I did get lucky again and actually drew the late season bull tag for the unit this year.

How many PPs does it take to even have a chance at drawing that tag?

The Henry mountains unit is where everything is happening these days.
The Sanjuan is down from what it could be, and has been in the past.
The Book cliffs unit is showing some promise for deer in recent times.

I am putting in next year in this order of preference on units. i have 6 points. Henry mountains. pausaugunt, San Juan.

Good deer in all those units though. Honestly, I want Henry mtns first because they say the population is very high and is the easiest to hunt.

I will be putting in for elk with 3 points as well. But will only put in for Henry mountains.

I have never hunted there but have been in all those areas and seen giant deer everywhere. After doing all my research I believe the best place to hunt is where the deer is. If you know an area and have seen deer there, I really don't thing you can go wrong with Utah as a whole!
