Had some time to spare so thought about setting up another 308 for bench just to take myself back to the start of it all for me. Why not get a Rem 700 which is exactly what I started with when I entered this venture of precision and long range hunting/ shooting. Found a Gen 2 5R at a decent price at Sportsman Warehouse and placed the order. Couple short weeks later and she arrived, while picking up the rifle I decided why not get a new scope as well. All they had I was willing to buy was a NF SHV 5-20-56 SFP. Why not, back to the start of it all so this fit the build perfectly. Got the rifle home, mount the optic, clean the rifle. Whip up some loads and off to the range I go. Well I didn't even shoot the rifle, loaded some rounds into the internal mag and it wouldn't feed. So I drop it down to take a look, the follower was so scored up it literally tore my brass to shreads. I mean it looks like someone hit this thing with 60 grit and left it. Left traces of the brass that got scored on it. So I went home and ordered a different follower for NDA cause I'm bored with nothing to do lol. Follower arrives, I go to remove the OEM and the follower spring snaps right in half with minimal effort removing the follower! Are you freaking serious with this crap. Not a good start but fingers crossed it shoots after this headache. Anyways I have always heard the horror stories with QC with Remington of the newer origin and now see what the fuss is about. Torquing the action screws I found they were over 65 inlbs. They didn't start to back off until almost 90. The list kind of goes on and on, I am still optimistic Remington gets it together and starts to come back from everything. When I started shooting they were the one and only to get, enjoy and build off of. It would be nice to see again! Just thought I'd post this so anyone considering one has a heads up the problems still exist. Best to all!!

I might be wrong but those Gen 2 5rs were made prior to the bankruptcy. And I haven't seen them on their website. They list 15 versions of the model 700 and none are the Gen 2. My brother has a new Remarms 700 in 30-06 and it's a nice rifle. Shoots factory Winchester power points about 1". I'll see if I can get some pics. He's got an 870 field master 20 gauge as well and it's very nice compared to the old express models. My local gun shop has a few in stock as well. I would definitely watch out for the prior bankruptcy rifles for sure.

The Rem 700 in 30-06 I got sometime around 08, 09 I don't remember exactly. Belrand new would pattern instead of group. My smith buddy looked at it and saw the crown wasn't centered so he fixed that and it drew a jagged line across the page. Next I took the poly stock off and it was obviously twisted and rubbing on one side of the barrel. After the crown and stock the groups shrunk to softball size.

On the same smith's advice he told me to take the 220g bullets loose in the case to see the throat depth. The bullet fell out of the chamber. Come to find out the throat was a half inch deep. I took it to a gut near by that builds long range precision guns and had him redo it.

Now Trifecta as we call it will shoot better than I can with a reworked action and Brux barrel. I haven't had a desire to buy another Remington since. Well Maybe a 788, I've seen several of those that were **** accurate.

I had to double check on this, went to the Remington site and looked and sure enough there is no 700 Gen 2 5R at all on there. Went to the rifle and looked again, it has an RAR serial number so it is new and the rifling is 1:10 vs the 1:11.25 they used prior. So unfortunately I think the QC is still an issue. Interesting they don't list this firearm in their catalog at all but they are starting to pop up everywhere. A lot of talk over on the hide about it, found it while researching. Guess another telltale sign of new vs old is the bolt is checkered vs cerekote black. I haven't owned a Rem in a long time so I could still be mistaken on this, this is what I was able to determine though. Thanks for the reply!!

RAR is definitely the new prefix for RemArms but could be from as early as around 2021. There's some info I've seen on figuring out the coding online but would have to look it up. I did some looking on the site and looks like 5R is standard on many versions and faster twists on some like the 7mm bores. I hate that they would allow something to leave that's not right. Employers and employees ought to care enough to try and make the best product they can. I'm sure every rifle made has someone's eyes and approval on it.
Let us know how she shoots when you get a chance to take her out. Hopefully it's a good shooter for you. I too hope they get it together and trying to give them time to clean up operations and tighten up.

I bought a threadded 700 sps tactical/16" last December for under 7 bills, I've not had any issues with it at all- it's an RAR serial number. I havent shot it much, but it will hold at least 1 moa with a few different loads during break in--- I havent started reloading for it yet so I can't tell you what kind of group it will print.

If you look at the detailed descriptions on the remarms web page-- it looks like all the 700s have a 5r barrel ( the description of the ops gun on sportsmans web page serms to go further to say his model is a hammer forged barrel with the hs precision stock/ cerakote/fluted for about 12 bills)-- I'm gonna bet the op's rifle is a "special edition" made for sportsmans warehouse-- rem has done this for years, make "special" rifles for the big box stores....some I know of are Walmart, dicks, sportsmans, academy, basspro/cabelas, etc.

I'll bet the op got one that has a few issues-- this is normal across all mass produced rifles I've seen, heck even some upper tier production rifles like christiansen, Kimber, fierce have gone through qc issues in the past.

What I want to know, is when you contacted remarms about your issues-- how was their customer service?

I'm making payments on a RAR M700 ADL 7mm Rem Mag 26" 1-8" twist at my LGS. I would had it here but needed to make a few repairs around the house first. Overall it looks good, bolt is smooth, trigger isn't excessive. I'm still deciding on whether to put it in a Magpul Hunter or KRG Bravo. I really wanted a .223 for a cheap long range trainer. But I need a LR elk rifle.

Wow!! I was considering purchasing a new Remington in .243 with a 1-8 twist, but at this point after reading your experience and seeing the photos, I think I will pass at this time.....

I bought a RAR cdl sf in 308 a while back and it's super accurate and not picky at all, the lugs contact the same on both sides and it ejects brass like it should..View attachment 470623
That's a shooter. Remington promotes that their new manufaturing plant will produce better quality firearms. I took a chance to see if that's true. My buddy bought a late RR Long Range 300 WM. Yes it had qc problems. A big burr on the bolt rails which he filed and polished down. It's a shooter.

I bought (3) 700's between 2010 and 2015, all shoot <.75. the Long Range(300 wm) shoots as small as .25, with a hand loads. And (2) wallie world adl's, 7mag shoots .6 with factory and a 243 is .5 with hand loads. Both were put in McMillan stocks. You got a bad follower, ok send to back to them. Imo your making a mtn out of a molehill. Or buff it out and move on.
That rifle as stated was probably a late throw together before closing. Not that that's an excuse for poor qc.
If it doesn't shoot then you have a real reason to complain.
