I have a 700ADL in .223Rem. I want to do a rebarrel to another cal. Does anyone know if the bolt can be opened up to a 308 cal bolt face? And what is the normal charge for something like this? Or am I going to have to get a new bolt. TIA
Yes, the bolt face can be opened up. I would advise using a "Sako type" extractor when the bolt is opened. You could also purchase a second bolt form Pacific Tool and Gauge, and have your gunsmith fit it to your gun.
Just a money-saving suggestion - if you intend to rebarrel to a caliber with a .308 bolt face, why don't you try to solicit a bolt trade? Someone else might want to rebarrel to a smaller bolt face, and be willing to do a swap. This would be a cheaper alternative for both of you.
