I've been using a rechargeable air mattress inflator to blow ambient air through my barrels between shot/groups. As the daily temperature rises, I run the inflator longer. The internal battery has been running out before I'm done. The unit uses a standard USB charger which I assume is 5 volts.

I'd like to plug an external battery pack into the unit for better daily longevity. I have a nice pack that I use for my Chargemaster, but it's a 12 volt output unit. I assume that I can't run that into the inflator. What is the solution for extending the daily usefullness of the inflator?

To do it correctly, you need to match it with what the unit requires. Somewhere in the unit, there should be some specs, like pictured below.

🧙‍♂️ Might be best off just buying a 12v inflator and running it off the 'nice' battery pack you already have 🤷‍♂️

Agreed! It's just a matter of how much the OP is willing to spend or which MAH unit (Amazon has 10,400 MAH for $43) he is looking for.

If you're vehicle has a 110v inverter as well as usb charging ports like most newer trucks… plug it in while your vehicle is running and it'll charge.
Only the Mili- amps/ hour may not be enough to keep up between shooting strings… depending on the amperage draw.

I just realized something. I have a battery pack for a heated vest and a battery pack for my iphone. They both have a 5 volt output. I just ordered an adaptor that should get me where I need to go.

Just an FYI, the output voltage (5V) doesn't determine how long you can use the unit; rather, the MAH rating (milliamp hours - charge capacity) does. For instance, a 10,400 MAH battery will last longer than a 1,000 MAH battery.

ADDED: I do not remember how much I paid for the solar charger below, but I got it a while ago for when I am off the grid, and it is a 32,800 MAH (highest at the time) multiport.

Most of the name brand LiPo jump-start batteries also have the ability to charge things. I know that my AntiGravity XP10's (one for each truck because forgetful) came with a bunch of charging adapters.
 
I too use a rechargeable air mattress pump to cool my barrel at the range. I use the above listed solar panel battery pack (or an identical one of a different brand) to charge my garmin and if need be, my pump. If you're having trouble getting it to keep a charge, remember, generally speaking lithium batteries like to stay charged...don't run them dead, charge them fully and don't leave them plugged in once charged. Store them with at least a 50% charge. Also, most batteries have a useful charge and discharge life cycle. They degrade the more you charge and discharge them.
 
What you are describing is basically an air compressor. Is anyone in this forum aware of the cons are of compressed air? Try asking a professional auto body repair shop about it. They will most likely say WATER! I restore antique tractors and deal with this frequently. Water in the paint is a No-No. Yet, I assume you are blowing this compressed air through your gun barrel and the lower receiver. What a great idea.😆😆
