Any one have any leads to best pest control ammo for fast kills currently went and purchased a brand new a tikka T1x and added my suppressor to help a chicken farmer with rats( this is my first suppressed gun)
in currently using CCI segmented HP 710fps and they seem to do the job just some rats run off into their holes should i step up into the Suppressor CCI Segmented 970fps since its easier to find online and in stores.
just to add more details on the gun i have a leupold 2-7x32 vx2 cds i bought from some one on here and the dovetail mount that comes on the gun just ordered some talley light weights that screw to the reciever should i keep the scope in the rings its in or would i benefit more going with the talley

You really want an Air Rifle, preferably a PCP air rifle for shooting mice and various birds. The air rifle will just make a thumping sound. The guy in the Video is using and AirArms 510s and they start at 1500+. Not cheap are they.

I would say .177 would do the job but .22 would probably do it better. There is no reason to go over that.
I'm sure their are cheaper version out there, but you get what you pay for.

Yupp, an airgun would be a good tool.

A PCP — for better precision and less weight.
These guns are not your father's bb-gun — they are powerful, high precision machines, capable of moa at 100y. A wide range of calibers exists, including those suited (and legal) for large game.

⭓If this is just a short affair with airguns — and you want to get on with other types of shooting — you won't need to spend $1200 — $1700 for a quality PCP.
You should be fine with a made-in-China gun, $500 give or take $100.
(Brands: Air-Venturi, JTS, AEA, Umarex)

⭓For your high pressure compressed air a cheap compressor runs around $200.
Or you could buy a 9L HP airtank and get it filled in a nearby dive shop (if you have such a thing nearby — you aren't from Nevada, are you?).

⭓Many people use night vision or thermal to shoot rats.
However, a good red flashlight is a much cheaper alternative.

⭓Buying in the classifieds at www.AirgunNation.com saves you between 25% and 40%.

It would be interesting to see how the other ammo would do but I went with the gamo urban 22 cal PCP ($300 from Amazon) with a thermal and my son n I have had a lot of fun shooting rats n it's quiet and safer than a 22 lr but we are shooting around buildings and livestock etc but if you change ammo let us know how that works

I have tried a great many subsonic rounds for pest control. First question, are you using this inside barns and graineries where you have to worry about punching holes in the walls and sides, as that will have an effect on ammo choices.

That aside, the 710 FPS CCI segmented were by far the most accurate at 50 yards of the really quiet rounds. I have never tried the 970 segmented but I would think it would work great too and have quite a bit better smack factor. However I did shoot a lot of gophers with the 710 segmented and after shooting gophers to 75 yards with the 710 FPS, I must say I was really impressed with the amount of damage the segments bullet does at even low velocity. Even without a suppressor they are really quiet and very effective.

The Aguila 60 grain hollow points smack hard and are very accurate to 40 yards. Pretty much any of the subsonic target ammo was accurate but the solid bullets did not kill well.

Winchester Xpert is 1250 FPS with a large hollow point. They kill very well but are quite a lot louder as not subsonic.

Circles are exactly 1" to outside edge of black circles. Centre dot is .20 of an inch.

I think your rifle setup is fine, and yes, give the 970 FPS option a try and see how it goes, esp. with the accuracy noted by @Dean2. However, I will only use your setup outside when it is clear of any objects not meant to be shot. Good luck and have fun with it.

Speaking of pest control, my buddy and I hunted a farmer/rancher's property participating in the Block Management Area; he has 50-60 cats and has no rat problems at all.

I purchased a tactical version, LL, just for the heck of it, but only used it on gophers.

My brother has an FX Impact as far as air guns but the issue there is he is far away and im just heling this elder gentleman all shots are outside and i have shot them from point blank to 35 yards as of now the further the shot the faster they go down for whatever reason i have alot of older 22's but didnt wanna thread them for my can and ruin the resale value so it gave me the perfect excuse to buy the tikka T1X i will look into the air guns since its another gun i dont mind spending money for something of good quality when i have the extra cash i just wanted to get out and help this gentleman since the rats are killing alot of his chicks the count is up to 67 dead rats and i will keep on hunting them down the main reason i went with the 710fps ammo and a can is for noise he is inside city limits and neighbors are a good distance but are touchy with gun blast talked to local PD and they came out heard the gun and seen my shooting area and gave me the green light

i will try more ammo mainly have some ordered since the 3 little guns stores around me dont carry much and th bigger stores seem to be sold out this tikka is brand new with only 75 rounds thru it as of yesterday and its been pretty good in the accuracy department with the 710fps hopefully it likes others and keeps shooting good

That's some good shooting! I'd love to go help out anyone with that much of a problem. Heck I'd even go out and buy an air rifle for that much fun.
I'll be heading out to CO, Wyo & MT next week looking for places to go shooting for Prairie Dogs. anyone out there with a problem and wants some help. Let me know. HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL. Also headed for a friends ranch in OK after that. But he only has 80 acres.

I've had the 710 fps version drop rats stone dead at 15-25 yards, but the 970 fps version just puts them down harder and more consistently at 30-60 yards. Pair it with head or high-shoulder shots and you'll see fewer escape artists. Test a box for POI shift (it'll be close but worth confirming with your Leupold).
