Ordering Stock Help

Big shout out to Manners and their customer service. Nearly every stock I own is a Manners with the MCST being my favorite. Tom won my loyalty with my very first one many years ago. It was my first full custom build and I was a lot more timid then with fitting and bedding. Back in those days they came with pillars installed which was great for a green horn. On this particular stock there was a slight fitment issue I didn't feel comfortable doing. Tom had me send the stock and my barreled action back and they took care of fitting and did an entire action bedding job with marine tex at no charge to me. The fitting and bedding job was impressive. The rifle shot extremely accurate. That bedding job inspired me to learn how to bed my own and what a good bedding job should be and look like. Many years later I've given Manners many of my dollars. Here are a couple that I have done using the Manners mcst stock, a Defiance GA Hunter and a Lone Peak Fuzion paired with the Unknown Munitions DBM running long XL magnum magazines. Both of these stocks were from the online store and not exact for these builds but I made them work. (Got a lot more experience now 😉) They were cut for the Hawkins M5 and took minor fitting for the Unknown bottom metal.

Be prepared to make some adjustments to your action unless you have Defiance do it. I've now built 4 rifles with the Unknown Munitions bottom metal and every action has required machining but it's been worth it.

As you can see on this Lone Peak Fuzion I had to mill the front and rear of the receiver to get clearance. This was for a 338 RUM. The Defiance is a new 30-338 RUM I just put together with a long freebore for the Hornady 225 eldm and the Berger 230. It also required some mill work. If you haven't purchased your action yet you may consider buying a Bat Vesper from Unknown. Its cut and ready to go. As an aside, Tom if you're still following, I'd be very interested if you guys would merge the PH stock features into the T stock in a light weight EH fashion. Recessed cut on the butt end sides, shallower top, similar forend. Same could go with the EH4. Also another one of my favorites. Best of luck to the op.

So m5 inlet obendorf means what? I thought the cfe9 was for bdl inlet?
Sounds like m5 being larger than bdl lets you do bdl or dbm?
"M5" is the cut in the stock. Larger than standard BDL, most magazine systems use an M5 cut. "Obendorf" is the bottom metal itself. It's slightly deeper than a standard BDL for fatter cartridges (I believe). You can use a BDL style bottom metal (Obendorf, or not) in stock cut with an M5 opening, if it's designed for that.
The CFE-9 is designed for running longer than factory cartridges in a BDL system, often with modifications to the action.
I've spent a lot of time on the Wyatt website, and have ordered the wrong magazine box more than once. (I usually just plan a new rifle around the "incorrect" box...)

If you order your action through Defiance specify that you want the "4 inch ultra cut" and let them know your running the 4" magazine.

Hi , I just sent you a pm with my cell number. Give a buzz when you are free ill get taken care of. Sounds like you are going to have a great build when done. Do you know what bullet and oal you will be running. There is a lot of component options out there that will need to be picked first before picking a stock. I will be happy to walk you thru.

The front office has added a few more customer support personnel over the last few weeks that are still in training. It will take them a little time to get up to speed with all the custom options. Jim, Matt or I are also always there, just request a call back from one of us and we will call you right back.

Thank you
That's customer service! Tells you all you need to know about buying a Manners.
CALL HIM!

I tried today and it was embarrassing. The two people I talked to had no clue. I asked them the difference between Hawkins M5 vs Hawkins M5 Oberndorf and they said they didn't know. I kept telling the individuals I know the bottom metal I want to run, what inlet option do I need to select. Seemed like I was speaking a different language.

Edit: I need to retract the above. Spoke with manners this morning and stand up customer service!!!!! The individuals I spoke to were new and in training and I should've cut them some slack…..

Im sorry you felt that way. I run Manners stocks exclusively and have ordered several. My first time I knew nothing either.

I know Tom Manners personally and will gladly help you get setup.

Send me a PM and we can connect offline.
