One powder for 270 win?

Hi all. If you could afford only 1 type of powder to load 130-140gr hunting bullets for a 22" to 24" barreled 270 Win, what powder would you choose? You can list a few and number them as best to worst if you want. I'm limited to what my local Scheels has. I know they don't have H4350 for certain. The 22" is a Tikka, and I've been told they like velocity to get the best accuracy.

As with anything else, YMMV. Be specific on your bullet brand because bullet manufacturers all have different recommendations, but they fall on a particular powder burn rates, so get familiar with it. Powder recommendations is useless unless you can procure them. The beauty of reloading is experimentation.

There's a handful a good powders you could use for the 130-140's, but if you want it to breathe fire with velocity and accuracy, you want RL16

This is just MY opinion and powder of choice with 130's

I would not limit myself to what the local store carries, you can find powder online and they do run specials with no Haz Mat fees at times throughout the year. I would suggest looking at H4831sc, this powder seems to provide the best accuracy in a lot of cartridges, especially the 6.5-284, and for me 6.5 PRC. Good luck in your search.

IMR 4350 or H4350. If the store does does not have either of those, find a store that does. Either one is a splendid .270 powder.

I would also guess that the 270 was developed around IMR4350. So there is that too.

sites offering free hazmat and free shipping if you sign up to their notifications. Just jump when you get notices and get the powder you want. Very few LGS will have EXACTLY what you need but on line readily available.

H4831sc did very well in both of my 270s from 130 monos up to 175 gr pills. Not screaming velocity, but very accurate out to 1000 yards and change.

N555 has been lights out.

H4350 has been better than H4831sc for me

I have been shooting the same recipe for over 35 years in my old .270. Find something in the burn rate of the 4350 or 4831's. See what your rifle prefers as your mileage may vary.
