Evening all!

Just wanted to introduce myself. Im Ben, im a hunter from the north of England, UK. I hunt mainly Fallow, Roe and Red deer but also manage a herd of Sika too. I also shoot shotgun, mainly game, Partridge, Duck, Grouse and Pheasant. Im a hunting guide and train and assess for the UK hunting and firearm qualifications (they're not mandatory).. also a lover of custom hunting rifles and long range shooting and hunting.

Favourite calibre… 6.5x284 and 243 Ackley. Also shoot 7mm's..

Here to learn more and read more stories from the US. hoping to visit the US this year.

To be fair, I think the plan is to visit MT for a few weeks in June. It's actually my honeymoon! With it being out of general hunting season, I'd love to do some fishing and ideally get out into the back and beyond. I'd like to find a guide who could take us into the mountains with mules or horses for a few days and do some camping and fishing..

And/or, I'd love to shoot some PD. but my knowledge of where to go and who to speak to is non-existent! I'd really like the real experience rather than paying a fortune to go on a nature walk or catch stocked fish..

Any help or advice would be great!

I don't know where you plan to visit, but MT has much to offer. I would follow @birddog's suggestion in the thread. Most outfitters (https://suncanyonlodge.com/fishing/) offer fishing, hunting, and other activities; some have multiple areas to take you. The Bob Marshall Wilderness (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/flathead/recarea/?recid=70759) is vast enough to fit many outdoor activities.

A few years ago, my boys' scout troop/venture crew and I went on a 10-day backpacking trip (and fishing, of course) at the Bob Marshall Wilderness. We started at Holland Lake (https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234486) and ended up just shy of 100 miles. At lease you can bring a gun here. Some items are needed to bring it in, but in England that's totally different. Not allow to bring in a rifle or go through there on your way to Africa or other parts in Europe. Also I am supprise you are allowed to own a rifle or shotgun their.

To be fair I know little about bringing guns into the UK from other countries. It's not just a restriction with the carrier is it? I'm guessing it would be a UK rule but not heard anything about that, which is alarming..!

Taking guns out of the UK (and back in again) is relatively painless as long as you've got a carrier that accepts firearms.

That's great info! I'll have a look and see what emails I've sent to who already.. I've worked with USAF-E against the F-15E's both in the UK and on detachments round europe. Always good fun working with them!

The other thing is you don't want to go New York. It's a real pain also. You can't receive your firearm without a police there. They have to inspect your firearm and they can't touch it either. The shipping case has to be locked up. Your own personal locks, and have and extra key. the last time I went to Africa my ammo was locked up in the rifle case.
Best to look into the shipping the firearm requirements before even beginning to go.
It just a pain. It's what it's is.

That is 100% not been my experience.....Myself and four other shooters off the US Fclass team shot the European Championship last year and will be going back this year. It's nothing more than a little bit of paper work and jumping through some small hoops to ship ammo.

In England? Going thru England with a firearm it's my understanding was impossible. Now if you are setting up for match. You have people picking items up for you.That's possible a different story, but just travel through there on your way to Africa was a different story. That was 2018. So I looked it up and it appears rules have changed.

I tried to bring firearms to the UK, but decided not to. It takes a lot more work than I am used to but not impossible. My initial problem was relying heavily on my sponsor/co-workers, but none of them are gun owners or hunters. I have to deal with local/UK and base restrictions. It was not worth it for me.
