Neck sizing - what does everyone do

What does everyone currently do for neck sizing? I am considering getting a mandrel set. Is neck turning worth it? I am currently just running. A neck bushing

It depends on the cartridge for me. I have a Redding S fl neck bushing die that I use with my 7mm Rem Mag. It is an honest 1/4 MOA with neck turned and sorted Norma brass. My 338 Edge, 243Win and 7mm-08 are just standard dies and good sorted brass. They are all honest sub 1MOA and nearing 1/2 MOA rifles. I've kinda come to the conclusion that if you start with really good brass and a good straight chamber/barrel, it's hard to not get good accuracy. I do have to admit that I enjoy making perfect reloads that will keyhole at 200yds, but it does take time.

I FL size everything unless I am.pulling bullets to change a powder charge. Then I resize neck only.

I'm using a mandrel on every cartridge I load.

Before any neck sizing with mandrel or expander, lube inside of neck. I like a small amount of Hornady One Shot, dry lube upon evaporation, applied with a cotton swab. Wear nitrile gloves.

I turn necks to chamber neck diameter after neck sizing. Measure neck of unsized fired brass then make sure diameter of neck sized brass does not exceed fired brass diameter. Allow .001 inch for brass sping back.

I full length & neck size every time. Full length die having no expander plug.

Final sizing step is to size necks with a Lee Collet die. Most of my dies are Lee, F/L & collet. Lee just came out with a new seating die having sliding inner sleeve to align bullet, instead of floating stem. The Lee Collet die sizes necks to hold bullets.

Fired brass should allow a tight slip fit of bullet into neck.

Turning brass to chamber neck diameter assures uniform neck wall thickness, reduces cartridge run out in chamber, reduces brass hard working, & helps with uniform neck tension.

I watched an episode of Cortina's ethical hunt challenge and there was a guy that did neck sizing only and he had major problems chambering rounds. Always full length and then use mandrel to uniform neck tension on all your loads. Everything has to be the same; neck tension, powder, case length, case headspace, BTO and depth of primers. Same procedures for every round.

I started using the Forster Bump Bushing sizing die. After 3 firings I am finally able to utilize the "bump" portion of the die.
Previous firings I was still able to close the bolt without resistance.

Are you neck sizing with bushing only?

I have several sets of dies with a FL and neck sizer dies.

And when I only want to touch up a neck, I sometimes use a different FL die for a case larger than I need (like running a .260AI through a 6.5SS die) for necks only.

Forster full length neck bushing, then mandrel die to get one thousands neck tension.
This is done for myself! If someone brings me new brass to load I run it through a mandrel after cleaning up the neck for burrs.
