Mill Dot holdover

I am trying to make a
mill
dot hold over chart for my 30-06 and ive looked through some post but i cant make any of it make sense
can
any one give my the calculations to find out witch dot to hold over? i want to shoot out to 500 yrds and i think mill dots should be fine for this.

Just remember that 1 mil represents 3.6" at 100 yards.
So lets say that drops are:
300 yards = 7"
400 yards =22"
500 yards = 45"

For 300 yards 3.6 x 3 = 10.8 (this is what 1 mil represents at 300 yards) Now take your 7" of drop for 300 and divide it 10.8 and you come up with .648 mils for your hold over.

400 yards 3.6 x 4 = 14.4 (22 divided by 14.4) = 1.529 mil hold over

500 yards 3.6 x 5 = 18 (45 divided by 18) = 2.5 mil hold over

nate this will work for any caliber. If you have your drops just substitute them for the ones for the corresponding yardage. Do you have your drop chart?

why spend 30 buck when you can spend 30 min doing a little math and make your own drop chart and tape it to your stock?

One more ? if im shooting 200 yrds at a 2 deg downhill angle
and did my math this way
11.27* .999=11.258
4.43-11.258=-6.82
3.6*200=7.2
-6.82/7.2=-.94
so that means i would aim .94 mills low at 200 yrds or am i doing this wrong?

better yet, spend $75 for Exbal with the reticle calculator tool and you can figure drops for any scope first or second focal plane with any caliber.
