Loose Suppressor?

Guys,

Still messing around with the new Tikka, T3X, this time with a Barnes 95 LRX. Had a promising group working at about .45 MOA and threw one 3" down and 3" left. Not cold bore and I think 3rd in the string but thought I went through the same hole till I went down range and looked at it. I'm running a Harvester 300 on the end of it and noticed it was loose (after burning my hand) and tightened it up. Could this be the culprit? Action screws are torqued to Tikka spec and all scope mounts are good.

Absolutely could be the culprit.

I have been shooting steel with my 6CM (aka Mr Confidence) and all of a sudden, all over the place for 3 shots. Loose can. Tightened it up, and back to crushing it. Now I check my cans before every shooting session, even between 15 minute cool down breaks.

Thanks you guys. This suppressor was not backing off on my other rifles and I was not diligent about checking it on this rifle. It has done it a few times and I just noticed it today. It's only about 1/2 turn, not a baffle strike situation but loose nonetheless. I will check it every shot now during load development and before I take it in the field.

I'm pretty diligent with checking my cans. When they are on long term I give them a little tug check each time I grab the rifle.

I'll get up early tomorrow and load up 15 more rounds of that 33.6 grain Varget charge and head back to the range and see if it's legit. Glad the range is only 7 miles away. Frustrating that something so silly probably caused these unnecessary fliers and wasted a lot of time/components. This blunder will be added to my long list of miserable reloading and ballistic failures.

But for now……Bourbon.

Yep, after every few firing I check for loose silencer. Just part of the routine.

I change mine out between rifles so don't want any thread "stuff" in addition, the manufacturer does not recommend it.

I'd like to know. I've had this can on 2 other Tikkas, a DD Delta 5 and a Savage FCP-SR and it never spun off. I can totally see how it messes with the harmonics now. I've had at least 3 groups with 1 crazy outlier. Talk about confounding the data….Jeeze!!

Actually, if you back of a bit and do a "snap" tightening motion it will stay in place…For the most part.
