Looking For Scope Recommendations

I plan on acquiring a Bergara BMR Carbon Rimfire Rifle in .22LR. It will be used primarily for prairie dog shooting. I won't be taking many shots over 200 yds. and I don't want to spend over $500 on a scope, but I would like a variable power scope that goes up to at least 10X. I welcome your thoughts on this.

You will need to make some decisions on your own before you take any advice on a specific scope. First, is a 22LR realistic for 200yds. Wind is a killer at that range. While a 22LR is certainly capable of a 200yds kill on a dog, you really need to consider whether you can reliably make humane kills at that distance. Second, do you want to use a holdover reticle or dial your drop. You also need to determine what ammunition you plan to use and make sure you only look at scopes with enough adjustment to be useful and you will also need a 20 or 30 MOA rail. Run the ballistics.

Just my opinion but wrong cartridge.

I have a Burris Black Diamond 2.5x10x50 that I love on my 308.
And a Burris 2x7x35 on my AR-15 with 20-inch bull barrel.
Both have the Ballistic Plex reticle = lots of fun plinking dirt-clauds on distant hills, and the occasional prairie doggie.
I usually shoot at the lowest setting 2x. - You can see point of impact, and adjust aim accordingly.
But the reticles are set-up to be at the highest magnification, if you're going by the numbers.

The vortex venom has big range of elevation and falls at $499. Pretty good value. Good reputation. A few friends use them with comp 22's out to as much as 300yds on rimfires.

I just got the same gun in 17hmr and am scope shopping too. Trying to keep it reasonably light but still want mid range magnification and side parallax adjustment. Probably going to go with something like the vortex diamondback hp that includes the side parallax. It's a little heavier than I want but checks all the other boxes. Also looking at the Leupold freedom rimfire but it's 3-9x or a few Burris models. Talley makes a one piece ring/base that's like 2 ounces for the pair. Shaves a decent amount of weight from a steel rail and rings.



I shoot 22lr PRS matches a couple times a month and have the vortex strike eagle on that gun. It can dial, has the parallax adjustment, and plenty of magnification to take your 22 out a ways for a decent price. The venom is pretty similar without locking turrets or illumination for a cheaper price. Athlon and Arken have similar offerings for similar prices. They're all heavy though.
