Lightweight Build for Wife

Well my wife is at a point where she enjoys deer hunting so I want to build a gun for her. This is not a long range build, but a lightweight build so I don't get stuck carrying the gun. My wife is about 5'1".
I am pretty much dead set on the 6.5 Creedmoor since availability is good for factory ammo and with having two kids under 2yrs old I have no time to reload anymore. Bullet choice will mainly be in the 120gr weight to keep recoil low with heavier bullets dependent on larger game. Reamer will probably be a standard SAAMI spec PTG unless suggested otherwise.

Have you considered the Savage 11 lightweight hunter (Savage Arms : Firearms : Model : 11/111 Lightweight Hunter) at 5.5 lbs for $727 (https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog...4/products_id/78708/Savage+11LWH+DBM+6.5CRD)?

Just a thought for your consideration.

Thanks for the insight. I actually was tossing around that gun and a Kimber. In the end, another reason for a custom build is that I have an In house gunsmith and he hasn't done a 700 build in about 2 years since Gunsmithing School. So I think it would be a good refresher course for him.

Id use a #2 barrel instead of a #0....

If you haven't already run the numbers, I'd check the weights of those components you list. Depending on your end goal for weight, you may not make it. The weight on a #0 to #1 isn't much. I'd like to see more input on the pencil barrels myself. True light weight stocks are expensive.

Remington 700 Short action w/ bottom metal should be about 2.25 lbs
Bell and Carlson Stock cut down to 12.5LOP 1.8lb est
#0 Brux Barrel at 22" 1.75lb est

Should be around 5.8lb excluding rings and scope. This is a rough estimate. Worst case scenario I could always move to a McMillan Edge stock or similar to reduce weight, drop to a 20" barrel etc.

Why do you say that? This gun won't be a gun where we sit there and burn barrels or shoot at the range all day. i would imagine she will shoot it twice a year and maybe every 2-3 years out hunting. Do you think the recoil may be a bit much or accuracy will be poor? I realize that after 2-3 shots there will be horizontal stringing.

Just a suggestion, I would look at the 6.5 Grendel. Much smaller case with hardly any recoil. I can watch impacts at 25 yards with my wife's 20" encore. Has plenty of punch for deer out to 300 yards or so.
