It's been a tradition for us to do a new year's eve hunt every year to end the year. This year was no different so we loaded up the dogs and headed out. Caught a couple smaller ones but kept pushing as there was good sign and we seen a nice sized boar track heading into the valley we were in. Dogs were working good and the anticipation was high. Most of the dogs were out but heading back to us as we watched them on the GPS.

Most of the dogs had returned but I noticed a cpl were still missing. When I checked the GPS unit I could see our main dog and one of our pups heading in the valley pretty fast. I had just told my buddy that it looks like they were onto something when all hell broke loose. It was evident the dogs were having a hard time by listening to the battle goin on.

The other dogs reached and the battle grew in intensity. So we knew it was a good sized one. We heard dogs yell a few times and knew we needed to get there asap. When we finally reached there we could see it was a nice one. We grabbed and stabbed him quick so we could check the dogs. Not really big but he was a fighter and had nice tusk. Luckily, no dogs were seriously hurt only minor cuts.

We were really happy that we got a nice boar to end the year. And even more happy that no dogs got hurt bad or killed.

Hope everyone has a great hog hunting new year...Aloha

Stud!
Those athlete sized boars with straight cutters can do serious damage.
Yup lost a lot of good dogs through the years. And countless hours putting dogs back together. Almost lost my thumb as well the surgeon who reattached my thumb said in 30 yrs he's never seen a bone cut through so cleanly lol

I hunted hogs in the Cumberland Mountains of Tenn. The hogs were big and they put a hurting on a few dogs. The outfitter held the dogs down on a table and stitched them up. No anesthesia, no nothing. That was 40 years ago. Today, I see that a lot of guys put heavy vests on their catch digs.

they can take severe punishment, but love nothing more than the chase.
We catch and stick from 250-350 per year with 3 good packs, starting about now until March 15. Lot of fun, too many pigs and there will be too many vet bills by then.
Staple guns, disinfectant and a clotting agent required. That's a good hunt at our club in the photo
