Is the Savage 112 in 338 Lapua a good hunting rifle?

In my opinion no, not for long hikes carrying it anyway. It's heavy!!!
With that said, it's great for longrange shooting I love mine.

I think it would make a nice stationary or stand LR hammer but like gohring3006 mentioned it would make for a long day hiking with it. A comfortable sling (or wheel barrow!) would be a must. JohnnyK.

I have a custom 338 Lapua I hunt with quite often. It's heavy (16lbs) but that's why I train hard and love having the ability to kill at long range. We took a Coues buck this year with it at 940yds.
We backpacked deep in, and absolutely I hauled it over hill and dale.

Use what you feel most comfortable making an ethical with.... period !! Your hauling it, so it's your call on what you use.

Good luck

PS I use an Eberlestock J107 tactical pack with scabbard to carry it easier.

Install a flush cup sling mount on the side of the stock then the gun will lay sideways on your back

Savage 112 is a bit heavy and you would not want to carry it wandering in the wild. It maybe good for longrage but I believe you have lots of choices if you would really like one for hunting
