Well I did the good Samaritan deed and fixed my 65yr old neighbors Lathes receptacle issue. In return after saying it wasn't necessary I left with a Mark-X 300wm Bolt Action rifle that's immaculate! It has a large ring Mauser action that's smooth as glass. He fired 1 rd when he got it and said it kicked like a donkey going thru a divorce. Fired it today and as advertised its a BRUTE! Im 6'1-240lbs and I think I slid backwards shooting it prone. How to tame this recoil?

Kick-Ez magnum pad?
Muzzle Brake?
Sandbags draped over it.

My 7mm STW feels like a 22lr compared to this thing.

Get you a Bell and Carlson composite stock. I had a Mark X in 30-06 and it kicked as hard as any 300 mag I have ever shot. Put it in a B&C stock and thought the first round I fired had to be a squib load. It wasn't, felt recoil was lessened that much. I had the same thing happen with a Remington Sportsman 78 in 30-06. Stock design really makes a difference. The standard 98 Mauser stock will fit the Mark X. Every Mark X rifle I have ever shot when properly bedded really shot well. Some of the lower end ones had non-adjustable triggers and were heavy and creepy. A friend of mine has a Mark X in 30-06 that shot PATTERNS instead of groups. I took it and free floated the barrel and bedded it and replaced the trigger with a Bold adjustable and set it at 2 1/2 lbs. I loaded up some 150 Sierra Pro Hunters with 51.2 grs IMR 4064 with CCI Br 2 primers in a Rem case, (my go to accuracy load) and went to the range. After a little adjustment on the scope I shot a five shot group at 100. It made a one hole about 35 cal. size hole. Went home and loaded up two boxes of ammo for him and took the rifle to him. Told him if he missed a deer now it was him not the rifle. He has a streak of 7 one shot kills going. :D
