In the Ear? Really???

Start researching out of State hunting licenses!!!!! In fact, all of you start checking out temp licenses, no telling where I might end up.

In SC, hogs are not considered a game species, so all you will need is a non-resident small game license. A 10 day non resident permit is $40, and the annual is $125.

Should I start warming up the chicken bog?

Not yet, there are more than a few states between Washington and S.C. Haven't heard from anyone else yet. Familiar with Texas, but if going to do this, will need info from other States. Besides, Chicken bog sounds like something that gets shoveled out from under the coop!

When I leave here, have to go through IL and MI to deliver a few things, so route out is set, route back can be flexible, except for Houstin and San Antonio. For sure got Hogs to kill there! May even pop into North Texas and show djones how it's done. Am kind of concerned about Eastern State Laws re: carrying weapons in the car. Will have a Springfield Armory M1A Scout and Remington 700, both new, with me and my trusty .45. The Springfield NM is already in Texas.

LOOK AT A MAP!.......,Well duh!...........More East than South..........:D

BBL, got to help my son this PM

If it ain't beef it ain't worth eating!

Just to keep the record straight, I've had quite a bit of Beef that weren't worth eating too! Chewed on one steak for several weeks, then gave up and had it tanned into a catchers mitt!

Last of Family leaving tomorrow so it should quiet down around here. Will at least have more time to see what ya'll been up too!

Do you live in "cattle country"?

My eyes have been opened to all of the delicious animals God put on this earth for us to eat. I like pigs, deer, gators, rattlesnakes, cows, lamb, chickens, quail, pheasants, and duck.

I'm a sauce man. I've got to have a dipping sauce or a marinade when I eat meat since the worst thing to eat meat that doesn't have sauce. My only real complaint about eating venison is that there is so little fat in the meat that it dries out when cooking.

I'm going to get some hunting in this weekend. My son lives with me most of the time. It's a holiday weekend so I'm going to take him to his mom's this afternoon so I can go hunting on Sunday and Monday mornings. Our whitetail season opened on 9/1, so I'll be ready for a buck or a hog.

I'm still waiting on a new permit for the hogs. I've not been hog hunting in over a week. Feels like forever.

Hey rat, you will be fine with your weapons in the car as long as you don't make it to NY. Thats where things get tricky and I personally stay out of that state with that stuff. I travel through every other state on this side with no problems. Also where in MI are you going and what dates we may have to do some shooting and possibly some deer hunting.

Snox,
Got friends, in spite of what djones may claim, in the neighborhood of Liberty, lower center of the state. Planned on staying out of NY, NJ and other states in the eastern area.

Won't know the schedule until I finish helping my son finish the projects he has at the new house. Probable 2 weeks to a month out. By then, should also have the new rifles broke in and zero'd. Also, except for delivery of some things to Illinois, remainder of trip will be weather dependent.

When ready to leave here will let everyone know so they can get the streets cleared of all women and children til I get past them! Plan now is to take the I-90 East to Illinois, then open schedule after that.

I'm just around the lake from where your going. I'm in the spring lake, grand haven area. You will have to swing up and do some shooting at least. Ill be in my slow time of year so timing should be good.

Well, finally starting the next phase of this journey. My son had 17 people at his house for the service and semi-family reunion. 7 of those were under 6, so I stayed at the local Best Western Motel. I love the great-grandkids, but 20 hours a day of their yelling and chaos was too much! With everyone leaving last Friday and my son getting the house put back together again, he wants me to move down there so I can help him put together a storage shed and a place to store firewood. Moving out today.

Typical NW day, overcast and drizzle. When I moved to Arizona, people asked me about my tan, being from Washington. Had to explain that it wasn't a tan, it was rust.......

When not with the family, I spent most of my time at the local Indian Casino just for the diversion, where I didn't have to think. Winnings here and Mesquite NV have paid for this trip plus quite a bit more. Maybe, not giving a **** whether or not I won, paid dividends. Been weird to win without even trying.

snox,
Will let you know when I get close. Like I said, weather dependent. Not going to hang aroound if it gets too cold.

scrmblr,
Do you live in "cattle country"? - Quote to Coy Franks.......

Scramblr,
Coy is one of the biggest cattle ranchers in N. Texas. Not all that big as far as number of cattle, but big physically! They had to bar him from Rodeo's because his idea of throwing the bull, meant throwing them literally, over the fence into the stands.

He still retains some of those characteristics though, he can still throw the bull with the best of them................:D

Got to check out, maids are getting impatient. Will be back later.

I forgot to transfer my little Packrat logo to the laptop and can't remember where I got it.

pakk - if all you want are pics, i've got lots of them... from the old days when i wasn't such a has been. not sure if you're ready for that though. it's quite impressive and i'd hate for you to have to compliment me.

Finally had some time to go back and review the posts over the last month or so and can see that we need to change the name of this thread to the "In the oven, right". Been more discussion of food than hogs, and except for one picture of djones, not much there vis-a-vis hog activity.

In regards to djones quote above, don't know what he's talking about. We've had to look at his pictures going back to 1956 on this thread already, so what's he going to show us, him in a diaper with a Kaybar in his teeth? Might be a welcome change at that! At least every thing except maybe the diaper would be clean!

scrmblr wants me to come to SC so we could post excuses of why we didn't shoot any hogs, and snox wants me to come visit just south of the Arctic circle, Michigan, and claims that it is hot there. Ya'll must have a lot of Turnip trucks running around, around your neighborhoods.

I think this is called "pulling legs attached to tenderfeet".....:D

Coy is so busy promoting "Beef, it's what's for Dinner" that he forgets there are other edible animals out there. In fact he's president of the County Beef Association, but with only 16 residents in the county, that's not really saying a lot! Must be tough not having any people not related to you living within 75 miles. Must also make courtin interesting for the young set, when they've got to ask everyone at the dance if they are a 1st, second or third cousin! Well, probably better drop that line since some folks can get a mite touchy about familial relations.

Got to go, going to meet with the Exec. VP from my old company and see what he is offering and what they want from me. Heard they dropped in income from over $400 Million per year to less than $125 Million and a 35% employee turnover. Sounds like European Management isn't working too well here in the U.S.

Packrat,

Always good to get an update from you! Best wishes to you during your travels.

I'm not as interested in hunting this deer season as in years past since (1) the hogs are out again, (2) my son has enlisted in the Marine Corps and leaves for boot camp in January, and (3) my 5 mo old daughter is trying to crawl and should have her first tooth any day. I'm trying to spend as much time at home as I can since I won't get this time back once it is gone.

That being said, I got another depredation permit for hogs, so I can go hunting after my son and daughter go to sleep. My son and I are headed to a dove hunt in the morning, and I've got 200 lbs of corn to put for the hogs after the dove hunt is over. I'll give the hogs a few days to find the corn, then hit it hard next week. Hopefully I'll have some kill pics to post next week.
