Hi everyone. I have a Howa mini in 223. I love the rifle, I have taken a ton of coyotes with it. But the factory mag has always been hit or miss whether it would feed properly. I also had a problem with the mag release being a little too active. Several times I have had a post or a branch I was using for a rest trigger the mag release and drop the mag. I solved that problem by cutting 2/3rd of the release lever off, no problems not. But the mag itself was an irritation I could not get over. I looked at online solutins and those cost almost as much at the rifle.
Last December I went deer and hog hunting in Texas. I wanted to use the Howa Mini for my dedicated hog rifle at night. But I knew I would need light to know the mag was working. So I got to thinking. A while back I needed a mag for a Tikka 223 with a more room for COAL, I found a great mag at apexpredator.net that works a bunch better than the Tikka factory mag. I contacted ApexPredator about a Howa Mini replacemet. I talked to Scott at Apex and he was beginning a design for the Howa Mini, so I took a chance and got a 10 round mag. It worked without a hitch in the dark. I also liked the fit, it is tight, you have to smack the bottom of the mag to get it seated properly, but it does not rattle. That saved me a bunch frustration.
