Was hoping someone could enlighten me on some load developement.
Rifle: 7mm rem mag. 27inch barrell. Norma brass fireformed hold 87 gr water
Have quite a bit of Magpro, would like to use nosler accubonds and partitions in 160 gr.
Primers: CCI magnum
Temperatures at range 65f
Would Appreciate any input

For info only:
I used 71.0 gr. as the powder charge and the default settings for seating depth (COAL) and case length.

Nosler's #7 shows MagPro min @ 68.0 gr. / max @ 72.0 gr.

160 gr. Accubond:

Cartridge : 7 mm Rem. Mag.(SAAMI)
Bullet : .284, 160, Nosler AccuBond 54932
Useable Case Capaci: 77.289 grain H2O = 5.018 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.290 inch = 83.57 mm
Barrel Length : 27.0 inch = 685.8 mm
Powder : Accurate MAGPRO

Gus
Thank you very much for info, I suppose I should start at 70 gr, and work up every 0.03 gr with th OCW method, watching presure. I worked out 87 gr water capacity on once fired norma brass think you used 77 gr usable water capacity would that mean slightly more pressure as theres more space?
Either way thanks again, and have a good easter holiday

No. I entered 87 gr. H2O capacity. The program came up with 77 gr. usable water capacity after calculating the space taken up by the bullet. This number will change with a change in seating depth. Pressure will fluctuate depending on case capacity & distance to the rifling.

If it were me, I would probably start at 69 gr. just to be safe.

Happy Easter

Hello Gus
Sorry to bother you again,

Accubond 160gr
Have had a look at seating depth with hornady comparator, and I am getting 2.824" to the lands, i deducted 0.020" to reach a seating of 2.804" thats backing off 0.020". I then measured the OAL thats from end to end to get a reading of 3.385" (this is a difference of 0.095" on programme default OAL)
Was wondering if you could input the corected OAL and see what quickload says.

The measurements for the 160gr partition, were 2.742" to lands measured from ogive (no backing off) and overall from tip to base is 3.306" bearing in mind that the lead tip on partition is subject to changes in shape seize etc.

Does quick load have an input for the ogive to lands measurement or is it always OAL tip to base ??
I also assume that the highlighted parts would seem to be the otptimum charge for magpro, and best bullet exit time for that length of barrel (27") all within the safe pressure zone?

Here are the adjusted COAL's. I used 71 gr. just so the chart would show where you getting into an over-charge as well as 10%-12% below maximum. Like I said, if it were me...I would start around 68-69 gr. and work up from there.

There isn't an input for distance to the rifling that I've found in the program. I would guess it's that way because there's no way for the programmers to account for every variance in every chamber.

Gus
Thanks a bunch, think I am ready for OCW test, interestingly mv lower on corrected seating figures than on original default OAL you sent earlier.

Gus
Just to let you know, your prediction 71 gr was good, did the OCW test yesterday, started at :

69.8gr, 70.1gr, 70.6gr, 70.9gr , 71.2gr 71.5gr, 71.8gr , 72.1gr,

the last three loads had very similar poi and were closest to bullseye
71.5, 71.8, 72.1.

The poi of groups were all .698" from bullseye, in the same position, the middle group 71.8 gr being aclover leaf .256" sub moa@100yds no major pressure signs.
I will now further test the 71.8gr magpro with nosler accubonds 160gr. To confirm everything.
I am hoping mv will be in the 3040 to 3080 fps range.
Once again thanks for the help

Good to hear. Looks like you're on the right track.

I've found QL to be accurate estimating velocities with a couple of powders I use (IMR4350 & H335), and not so accurate with R22, so you never know. Of course every rifle is going to be unique.
