Hells canyon mag length

Being as they built this rifle for long range, and chambered it in 300 win mag, you would HOPE that they would take this into consideration and make it capable of loading the 215 Bergers and similar bullets out to the lands. I would like to know as well.

Well I can tell you your hope is no good with the number crunchers. Take a look at Noslers rifles and their short magazines. They even designed two of the best cartridges this century will see to meet the 3.4 SAAMI spec instead of seating the big bullets out where they should be. Sorry for the side bar. I would bet money that any X-bolt magazine will be the same. Someone on here has to have one.

I have one in 6.5 Creed, so can't help with the long action, but mine has plenty of space to load Berger's and A-max out to the lands. I bet a gun store would let you measure if you took your calipers and asked nicely

What is plenty of space? My guess is it is 2.850 which is SAAMI short action.

I have a long action X Bolt in .280 Rem. In case you haven't already found your answer I just measured Browning's factory mag at 3.608, give or take. I did seat a 162 ELD-X into a dummy case at exactly 3.600 coal and it fed just fine into the magazine even with a few other cases put in on top of it. Not sure how consistent ABM's ammo is in regards to coal but it might just barely work

you could single load the rounds in. regardless of the mag size. I think its going to very on sizes however.

Thanks. That is at least longer than the typical SAAMI.

I just measured this hells canyon 300wm. The internal length is just under 3.600 -

3.580-3.590 depending on angle on what ridge the caliper sits in. The bullets do not hold straight in the rotary mag design. Not sure what actual length will feed right in the rotary design.

Would there be any way to extend the mag length? Perhaps removing some material from the front of the mag? I'm not completely familiar with the mag designs

Not really. What's wven more interesting is that I went to
Neck size some factory loads and try a couple hand loads and the neck sized brass will not run smoothly in rotary mag. Had to full length size to get them to smoothly rotate. It is possible that this part could be sanded out to run neck sized loads but not sanded on mag this early.

I am used to custom guns but I am really liking the feel of this rifle. Hoping it will shoot as good as it feels with a hand load. Four factory loads in it so far and three were horrible.

The nosler trophy grade 180 accubonds are doing ok.

I just loaded some 215 hybrids with 76 gr. H1000. Hope that will be a good place to start.
