Free Shooting areas close to Denver?

Hey guys fairly new to Colorado and cannot get a straight answer from anyone on where to find a decent range around here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

N S E or W side of Denver? If North and looking for free National Grasslands

I'm on the west side of Denver in Lakewood and I've been up to The Grasslands a couple times but I'm not a fan of the long drive up there

Colorado Parks & Wildlife - Shooting Ranges
Here is a link to get you started. There are some private ranges with very lengthy waits and hefty fees. There is a nice public range just outside of Hot Springs at the top of Byers Canyon. Free campground, free fishing, free range, beautiful scenery. Make it a weekend, but get there early! Just sighted in at Pawnee yesterday - and we baked.
