Encore 209x50 breech plug

I have an encore with a 209x50 barrel. I unscrewed the breech plug to clean it and now it won't go back in far enough to close. Anyone know what to do? I feel like an idiot here

I would … NOT... use the stainless steel brushes in your barrel. I use the nylon to clean the barrel breech plug threads on my custom and it works just fine. Clean those threads every time you clean the rifle after shooting.
The brushes snap and lock, so they won't come apart inside the barrel threads. Just run it in and turn it counter clockwise, like removing the plug, and it'll clean those threads for ya.
