I have an encore with a 209x50 barrel. I unscrewed the breech plug to clean it and now it won't go back in far enough to close. Anyone know what to do? I feel like an idiot here

I don't have the answer but you may want to look on youtube. There are videos showing how to disassemble and reassemble virtually everything. I've been there more than a few times.

Is the extractor removed or out of the way?
I have no idea. I'm about to throw this thing in the dumpster. I literally took it out, cleaned the gun, went to put it back in and it won't go in far enough

IIRC that only rotates 1/4 turn and one side might be UP?
IIRC you have to align it, then push hard while turning?
Nothing is in the way?
The encore I have is not the quick turn one. It takes 4-5 rotations to screw it in

Look for something blocking it. No reason it should not reseat unless something is blocking it.

Speed breech. I never had that specific breech plug. Mine were either like the photo I posted, or the 1/4 turn plugs.
Pull the plug and shine a light in that barrel to check for some kind of possible obstruction maybe. The barrel threads didn't shorten, nor did the breech plug threads lengthen. Take an old toothbrush, stick it in the barrel threads and turn it counter clockwise. After verifying the threads are clean, you may have to tighten it with the slotted tool and re-seat it ??

After you make sure that everything is clean, check the 2 piston rings to make sure they are in the groove, then put some breech plug grease on the rings and locking threads. It should slip right in using your thumb.

You might put a 20 gauge brush on you cordless drill and scrub those internal theads to make sure they are clean then wash them out with starting fluid, starting fluid is great for washing parts off and it dries within seconds. Be sure to use it outside.
I used a toothbrush and after 15-20 min got it to go. There was gunk in there that I had no idea was even there

If you have a Harbor Freight anywhere close, I'd suggest you check these out. THEY WORK! Everyone who's purchased this kit absolutely loves it.
Now you won't need the extension with a tip open, but the brushes vary in size and come as nylon, brass and stainless steel.
