Hey guys I need some input from locals or nonres familiar with the miles city mt area. My dad, cousin, and I are going mule deer hunting near miles city in a few weeks. We were told by our outfitter to apply for the combo permit and we could return the elk permit for a refund. I guess we did something wrong and won't be able to return the elk permit. We're considering going up about 5 days early to see if we can find a cow or two on public ground.
Is it worth our time and effort? Are there a fair amount of elk in that area on public ground? If there are any suggestions on where? I plan to buy maps but I'm not sure which areas to buy.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
