dovetail rings

watching some videos i noticed some put a little grease on both sides of the dovetail, what kind of grease is it? my leopld rings came with a light coat of some type of lub, was this a preservative? just wondering................mister c.

A tiny dab of Hoppe's gun grease or even high temp axle bearing grease should help prevent gauling and act as a preservative.

But, you'd only need the slightest film. More than that will only attract dirt.

I like to use an anti-seize compound/grease.

They turn in easier and dont Gaul.
