Custom rifle wont eject....

I finally got out to shoot my new 22-250, with 8" twist Brux. It is a 6 lug Wby Mark V. I started with some factory Federal 55g to get it on the paper. Didnt grab the spent round to eject. Tapped it out with a cleaning rod. Then tried a handload i was working on, 77g SMK with Nosler brass. Same thing. No pressure signs and velocity was as expected, 3577 with factory Federal and 3175 with the SMK. It wont grab a loaded round either.

I suppose i will end up sending it back to the builder, but that could take another 18 to 24 months. Id appreciate any insight to this problem...thanks guys.

Can you push the rim of a case into the bolt face and have it snap under the extractor?

I'm hoping it's not a head space issue where the chamber is deep and the back end of the case isn't being forced under the extractor.

Your first call should have been to the builder, not posting on a public forum. Any problem with a custom rifle should be taken up with the builder.

If the builder has made an error of some sort, it should NOT take anything close to 18 months as he should attend to fixing his mistake immediately. It should be a priority.

I had this same thing happen with a newly barreled 22/250 this spring. I took it back to the smith and he polished the chamber a little and it ejects properly now. The rifle would eject unfired rounds and sized cases but wouldn't eject fired rounds but it was an easy fix.

Yes, well i didnt call out the builder by name, so i think you should get off your high horse and be constructive with your reply.

My reply was constructive and proper given your circumstances. There is no high horse involved at all.

Who else is going to know better what might be causing your problem than the person who built your rifle. We've never seen or handled your rifle so everything suggested by us will be 'by guess and by gosh'. It's like running a laundry list of 'what-ifs' when it could be resolved with the builder doing the looking. Every builder I know is extremely responsible regarding everything they build so I corrected your supposition about how long it should take with a real information. All constructive, all with good intentions.
