That is pretty neat.
We always keep a butane lighter in every one of our packs and vehicles. You can fall in a stream, just stuck in a torental rain storm, be completely wet and those lighters always produce a flame with a spin of the flint wheel.

Its kind of an aw crap last save your butt. Put some cotton in prescription bottle. Ashes in small ziplock. Last ditch before find body since my Bic lighter and all my other fire starters are lost.

If I'm ever in a position that things are that drastic that I need to make a fire using this method, just shoot me and end the misery. A good hack I'm sure, but they always have perfect weather while proving that it works, I guarantee that the weather won't be cooperating when you need it

If you take Cottonballs and work petroleum jelly into them they make amazingly good tinder. Just one will burn long enough to get damp material burnin. But a lighter or other method to get it burning. Carry the cotton balls in a zip lock.

I carry a hurricane proof lighter in my backpack. It's a lot easier! LOL

I always carry at least 2 Bics. Plus strikers. If they don't work, I have small emergency backpack flares that will start fire anywhere. If they don't work, curl up.

Yeah I carry bic lighters and a magnesium bar with flint. But the cotton ball idea is good to know. And most of us old guys know about using our eye glasses lol.

What about replacing cotton balls with lint from the dryer.

There is something related to the friction of the cotton fibers.
