almost all campgrounds are now by reservation only-- I recently went to a nat forest campground that used to be ALL first come first serve and it is now 100% by online reservation only--- everything is booked months in advance -- BUT dispersed camping in Nat forest is still free and first come first serve-- BUT they have a cv-19 fire ban so no campfires
most state/fed campgrounds close before rifle hunting season here in CO anyway, never really understood that aspect of it
