Black Diamond Optics - Good/Bad?

Has anyone used these? I've been told the glass is very high quality and the build quality is excellent.
If that's true, how can they afford to sell a 2-10x50 for $550?!

I have an old (1994) Black Diamond with MOA turrets and mil dot reticle which is a bad combo. But the glass is excellent and the unique reticle support mechanism is very strong.

It's a 3 - 12 x 50 with30 mm tube. It sits on my Browning A-Bolt .300 Win mag.
