Barrel length

Anyone have first hand experience with a 22" or 24" barrel on a 300 wm? Just curious what kinda of velocities and accuracy you're getting. Seems that most are 26" but some factory rifles are being offered in shorter barrels.
Yes, all 3 of mine are 24" barrels. As with anything else, YMMV. One of my .300 WM propelled the 190 Berger at 3043 FPS and harvested a bull elk at 931 Y. You gain ~50 FPS with 26" barrels, or ~25 FPS/IN.

I have a Bergara HMR with a 24 in barrel. It's a tac driver using 190gr Speer impact with 77.5 of h1000.

24" gets me 2826 FPS with the 215s loaded long. This is with the SAAMI reamer.

To fit and feed from the Ruger mag (3.34") they are at 2686 FPS.

Both with H1000 but different loads. If loading a Rem action length, you should be around there.

I had 2 24" barreled 300WM's and a 24" 338WM for many years.
When I got 26" 300WM &338WM I was very happy, it made a world of difference to me, easier to swing on game and all of them had nicer ballistics.
Since building precision LR/ELR rigs, I have not gone shorter than 29", and most nestle around 30"-32" specifically for shooting 2K's.
For stalking, I still maintain a 26" barrel is easier to swing on game than short barrels but YMMV.

Cheers.
